Therapeutic Riding and Equine Assisted Activities and Therapies can be appropriate for children over 2 years of age and there is no upper age limit. AFTEC's youngest riders have been two years old and the oldest have been in their 80s.
Therapeutic riding is not appropriate for children under two years of age, Hippotherapy, however, is. AFTEC is currently working to offer Hippotherapy services in the near future. For more information about Hippotherapy visit the American Hippotherapy Association web site at: http://www.americanhippotherapyassociation.org/.
Forms for registration are located in this web site.
Contact AFTEC's Registered Riding Instructor for more information.

*Each individual who rides needs a physician's statement stating that
horseback riding will cause no harm.
(see Participant Forms on this site)
If You are a Veteran
Veterans can benefit in several ways.
Call AFTEC at 606–965–2158, or BGAD MWR Director Jeremy Hayes 859–779–6403.
- Become a volunteer to work with others. Losing one's self in assisting another is a powerful experience.
- Volunteer to work on projects for the center. There is always something to build, develop or clean up. Working as a team member or on your own can offer time for reflection and bonding.
- Register to learn horsemanship skills. Developing a partnership with an equine is a powerful experience and learning these communication skills can assist in building relationships with humans, too.
- Register to ride. AFTEC's goal is to provide challenging, stimulating experiences which can develop problem solving skills, communication skills and increase strength, flexibility and endurance.
- In the future AFTEC Plans to offer Therapeutic Cart or Carriage Driving. Stay tuned for more details. This activity provides an alternative equine assisted activity for individuals who either can't or don't choose to go astride a horse, or who just want to learn to drive horses.
