Howdy folks!
Boy, we’ve had a winter, haven’t we? As I write this we have cold temperatures and snow on the ground and all of the horses are snug in their stalls.
I’m writing because I’m looking for some help. This year, I’d like to really get PATH accreditation status for AFTEC. This means I need some help with all the ‘nuts and bolts’ of this process. Accreditation involves attention to the physical plant, but also the policies and procedures by which we run the program. And not only do we need to have them, we need to have documentation of their use. If you are interested in being part of the accreditation committee, if you have good organizational skills and love paperwork, let me know and I’ll get more information to you, so you can see what you’re getting into. Once we have a few interested parties we’ll have a committee meeting to get the accreditation process going. Please be prepared to make a commitment of a few hours of your time now and again until we get there.
As you might know we have a Volunteer Coordinator (Emily), a Facilities Manager (Jim), a Program Director and Lead Instructor (me), a Head Wrangler (Mark) and a Lesson Coordinator (Kerry). Another position I’d like to propose is Participant Coordinator. This person would be in charge of keeping track of participant paperwork, attends to exploring and setting goals and objectives, keeps track of Participant Contact Information, and generally makes sure participants are kept up-to-date and well informed. I am working on a Participant Coordinator Job Description. If you are interested in this volunteer position, get in touch and we’ll talk it over.
AND… we’ll need folks to help with Special Olympics. The competition will be in September, so we need to get logistics, funding, tack, etc. figured out. So, keep this on your mind as the riding season gets started.
We hope to start riding in March. Hopefully by then we’ll be able to get the horses down the mountain. I plan on having a Volunteer Skills Development, Stable Cleanup weekend sometime before then, I keep you all informed. Anyone who wishes to make the trip up to the Mothership some weekend should give us a call, we’ve got work up here, too!
Happy Trails!
